Result from ALSA E-comp

The ALSA National English Competition (ALSA E-Comp) has always been one of the events proudly presented by ALSA LC-UI. ALSA E-Comp is compilation of scientific competitions in the linguistic field with English as the media of communication. The purpose of this event is to facilitate participants in improving their skills and talents through a competitive yet sportive atmosphere of competitions. The 16th ALSA National English Competition 2012 (ALSA E-Comp 2012) was held on April 26th-May 1st with “Increase the Curiosity, Gain the Ability” as its theme. This theme is chosen because ALSA E-Comp is one of the events where the participants can gain their abilities, not only in terms of English linguistics, but also in being brave, firm, broad-minded, and putting forward ideas to the general public.

ALSA E-Comp 2012 has 7 competitions for university students throughout the region. The competitions are: Debate, Newscasting, Storytelling, Speech, Paper Presentation, Spelling Bee, and Battle of Brains.

As usual, this year, STAN EC sent the delegates to this competition. We participated in two competitions: debate and speech. The delegates are:
Debate : STAN A (M. Parama Umbara, Haryo Bagaskara, Defi)
STAN B (Fauziah M., M. Fadli Kurniawan, M.Iqbal Nabil)
Adjudicators (Agrevinna Beatrice)
Speech : Syarif M. Bagir and Ferga Aristama

even though we have prepared for this competition for quite long time with intensive training and mental preparation, but the result wasn’t very satisfactory. Both team defeated in octofinal round and in speech competition only reached preliminary round. even though we didn’t make it to the final this year, but we believe that all the debaters has given their best effort and did their best, they deserve some appreciation.

News from NDC

NDC (National Debate Competition) is a debate competition which is held annually by the Faculty of Economics at Padjadjaran University, Bandung. The participants come from various schools, like the Syiah Kuala University of Aceh and the Hasanuddin University of Makassar. Most of the debate issues are economic issues and its derivatives, such as green economy and sustainable development.

This year, NDC was held on April 6th – 9th. Thirty-one teams competed, including delegation of STAN English Club. We sent 2 teams:
-STAN A team members were: Melina Susilowati, Hendy Prihambudi, and Apriliani.
-STAN B team members were: Haryo Bagaskara, Agrevinna,Chairul Azhar.

Minister of Debate of STAN EC, Fauziah Mahabbatussalma, also went to there as the invited adjudicator.

STAN A collected 3 victory points, but unluckily STAN B only collected 2 victory points. That means, only STAN A could continue to the octofinal round. In this round, STAN A was against ITB C: ITB C as the government and STAN A as the opposition. The motion debated is “This House Believes That Greece Should Return to Drachma”. Once again, STAN A was defeated by ITB C. Both of teams failed to be this year’s NDC winner.

even though we didn’t make it to be the champion this year, but, it’s been a precious experience for these young debaters of STAN English Club because all the delegation were junior debaters. we surely will be better in the next competition.
